Art Journaling

Those eagle eyes among you, may have just noticed that the NEW Workshop Listing is now up on our website, ready for you to book your place at one of our popular evening’s. So go!! Book your places, then make sure you come straight back here, as I have a feeling this is a workshop that you may just wish to join us for!

Take a look at the photos on this page – they are a clue to two NEW workshops we will be holding this summer. The photos are some snippets of work in progress from Claire’s personal Art Journal. Two of the workshops this summer, will be focusing on the technique of Art Journaling. Don’t stop! Keep reading! Once you start, we promise you will love it and the creative mind that you begin to release!

Art Journaling has been used by artists for century’s as a way to play and experiment with color, texture, words, layout, orientation and other elements related to creating a masterpiece.

It is becoming more and more common for Scrapbookers (& cardmakers to an extent) to Art Journal during their everyday life. The reason why? Well, to experiment, to play and create in your own personal space, without having to think or worry about what is going on the page. Mistakes happen in Art Journaling, but that is how we learn from them and make sure that we avoid them happening in our Scrapbook pages.

The art of ‘Art Journaling’ (!) is to let your mind be free, do what you want with the pieces you have around you – not worrying if it’s a perfect match and whilst working in this way, we begin to create new techniques and generate new ideas for layouts, color schemes & journaling.

If you are to take one workshop this summer, then make sure you book your place onto “Art Journal – Creating Backgrounds”. We will use Gesso, Paint and Sprays to create some gorgeous textured background – techniques that you will be able to transfer to work on cards and scrapbook pages. The following week, we will start to add layers to our pages by adding collage and text. It is during this workshop, that we will look at examples of Scrapbook pages that have been inspired by Art Journaling and how we can use our Art Journal to improve our Scrapbook Layouts.

This really is a workshop you will enjoy! You are guaranteed to get messy and have fun – there are no rules or restrictions in Art Journaling…oh apart from one – MAKE SURE YOU WEAR AN APRON OR REALLY OLD CLOTHES!!!

Please note: Pictures show collage images (inc. Ladies) which have been taken from a variety of Magazines, Scrapbook papers & Embellishments.

And, if this still hasn’t convinced you – take a look at the blog of Dina Wakely (http://dinastamps.typepad.com/)– she is great inspiration to Art Journalers everywhere! And you know what? She too, like us, is a scrapbooker – who you can even find on the Hambly Screen Prints Design Team. We LOVE Dina! Such an inspiration to us x

See you at the workshop :)

We WILL have so much FUN!!!

Sara’s Summer Challenge

Yesterday, we showed you Kathey’s take on the Summer DT Challenge. Well today, Sara steps up to the task as we show you some of the fantastic creations she was inspired to make by this challenge.

First up is this beautiful bracelet – this lovely cluster design works well with the beautiful warm colors that are just gorgeous together.

And what about these fabulous earrings! We love the gold balls which Sara has used and then complimented rather subtly with a gorgeous pink flower. The flower adds a lovely detail which really makes you look twice.

We think that these Earrings would look absolutely great worn with this Chain-Maille Birdcage Bracelet – isn’t the birdcage just so sweet! And what a great use of jump-rings Sara found to create this gorgeous bracelet. Considering that jumprings cost just 75p for 50- this just proves that great jewellery really can be in-expensive!

Now, take a look at this unique pendant that Sara has created her next necklace. This focal point has been created using wire and a variety of beads to create a real statement hung fashionably on Black Ribbon.

And what about this double layered necklace containing lots of bright, funky and fresh beads. We love how Sara has encapsulated smaller beads in the square ones, adding even more layers to this necklace.

Its back to a little more wire work – although this time, Sara has cleverly used her chain as a base and wire wrapped beads within the centre of each link to the chain to make this a unique bracelet.

Lastly for Sara’s final creation, we will end with this Sweet pair of earrings….how cute are they?!?

Summer DT Challenge

Now, some of you may remember this picture:

February 2010 DT Challenge - Summer

This was a Design Team Challenge we set for our Jewellery Makers in February. Sara and Kathy worked hard on the project and we thought we over the next two days we would take time to show you some of the beautiful items they created for this challenge.

All of the inspiration to create these pieces were drawn from the picture.

First up, let’s look at Kathey’s interpretation’s:

“My inspiration for this necklace and earrings was based on the challenge and the size of the beads. The colors are gorgeous and although they are not something I would normally choose, I have to say I love the combination of the orange and lemon – very citrusy and reminds me of long summer days (hopefully!)”

“I used memory wire for this and I have to say that this was my favourite – although it was the easiest to make! The inspiration was the big bangle and the beaded handbag handle from the challenge. This would also work well with the metal bangles which have a screw end fitting – especially with the bigger beads”.

“This necklace was born out of the reason that there was no gold chain in my pack, and lots of orange and yellow beads, but there was some wire which I kept thinking I must use. Initially I wished it had been more like memory wire, but once I started to have a play I came up with the idea of making these coiled connectors. It was relatively time consuming, but quite easy once you got going. I just started the coil with round nosed pliers and then took my flat nosed pliers to hold it and used my free thumb & forefinger to help make the coil, pressing down with the pliers to harden the metal”.

We absolutely LOVE Kathey’s creations and it is a shame that the pictures do not quite show the real beauty of these pieces. If you would like to see them in ‘real-life’ (so-to-speak!) then why not pop by to our stand B35 at Shepton Mallet this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, where we will have some of Kathey’s work on display. If like us you love this jewellery that Kathey has created, then pop back tomorrow when we shall show you Sara’s take on the challenge!

See you tomorrow.

Preparations are under way!

That’s right, we are preparing for Shepton Mallet craft show at the end of this week. This is our most local craft show, so as a treat we have decided to have two stands pushed together to create one HUGE stand so that we are able to showcase all of our lovely beads alongside our papercrafting products. It’s been rather like a production line here for the last week and you can see a sneak peak of some of our lovely beads been packed above.

We have now sent all of the Scrap-A-Mia information packs out which should start arriving on your doormats this week! We have lots of blog posts planned for you this week, so keep an eye out for some great Jewellery and crafting inspiration coming your way…..

The Tim Holtz dies are selling so fast that it seems we will not manage to get them on our website until they have all sold out – so if you do want one, then please call us on 01935 422499. We currently have the following (although some we are down to our very last one):

  • Elegant Flourishes
  • Hanging Sign
  • Fanciful Flight
  • Movers & Shapers – Keyhole

Lastly, don’t forget the shop will be closed from 4pm Tuesday 20th April 2010 until 12noon Monday 26th April 2010 as we will be exhibiting at Shepton Mallet Craft Show. The craft show is held less than 20miles from our shop, so if you get the chance on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday then make sure you visit us there on stand B35.

We’ll see you tomorrow with a hint of summer inspiration!

Woo-hoo!!!! MORE NEW Tim Holtz Dies!

Hi Everyone!

Well, we are now back from Ally Pally and what a show it was!!! I am so sorry, but we were just so ran of our feet the whole time that we were there, the only pictures I managed to take were whilst we were queuing on set-up day to gain access to the hall!!!! Apart from the one above, this is the only other picture I have to offer!!!

See – we do know how to keep our blog readers interested!!! ;-)

How’s that for service from the Ice Cream man? Stopping outside the drivers window!!!

We met many more of our friends from UKScrappers and had fun in the demonstration theatre with the new ChipArt products from GCD Studios.

Our only dissapointment of the show, was that we ran out of room with all of our lovely products to display all of the samples which had been created especially for the show! So, in the coming days, we plan to showcase them right here for you.

We are busy preparing for Scrap-A-Mia (check out our Facebook & Twitter sites to join in the countdown), devising workshops and co-ordinating another VERY VERY exciting project which we have been working on behind the scenes for many months now, this should be revealed in the coming months – we promise you won’t be dissapointed ;-)

Next week you will be able to see us at Shepton Mallett Craft Show which as our most local show is always a delight. As a special treat, we even have a new shipment of BEADS coming in from china especially for the event – so make sure you don’t miss the launch of these new beads. (If they are anything like the Webster Pages, Prima & Distress Inks that were new in for Ally Pally, then we won’t be taking much back to the shop with us! So make sure you don’t miss out!) We will be having lots of new papercrafting products in the next week delivered too, ready forShepton Mallett Show. Our stand is B35 so make sure you pop by and come and see us – you won’t be able to miss us, as we are pretty central to the whole show and will be taking up one whole block of stands :)

Now for the inspiration of today – A really simple and classic page with clean lines made using papers from the Dear Lizzie Collection.

As you can see really simple! The reason I have kept it so simple is because I was dying to use this fun paper but because it was so busy, I was struggling to think how to use it. It then came to me that I could cut a block of the paper along the wiggly line.

The journaling that I wanted to add was rather long and with my large handwriting – it probably would have taken up the rest of the page! So I decided to word process the journaling, something that I tend not to do very often as I like the personal touch of creating with your own handwriting. However, I think in this instance, you’ll agree that the typed journaling ties in so well as it is so inkeeping with the clean and tidy nature of the page.

The edging on the journaling was created using another co-ordinating paper from the Dear Lizzy Range (Giddy Grasshopper) which was cut to size and edged with one of the NEW TIM HOLTZ SIZZIX DIES (sorry another item that sold out at Ally Pally, however we are due more very soon!)

I just love the way that you can now instantly add that finishing touch to all your cardstock and paper to ensure that everything ties in nicely, because remember it’s those finishing touches that make all the difference! (Tim would probably kill me for saying this but, this is definatly Sizzix’s answer to the Martha Stewart edge punches, just using a BigShot!!!)

Now because the journaling is so weighty, it needed to be balanced somehow and this ‘dreams’ title chipboard from the Dear Lizzy range seemed perfect. I know it’s pink, but I think that the red and the brown are so strong and dominating on this page that the use of a traditionally girly color doesn’t really matter as it helps to tone down the strength of the brown and red and I am pretty sure that nobody would mistake this as been a ‘girly’ page!

All the Dear Lizzy products used to create this page can be found here: http://www.your-creativemoments.co.uk/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=247

One last thing before you go we are sending a newsletter out to anyone on our mailing list at the end of this week, so to make sure you get your FREE copy sign up for our mailings here! (We promise not to bombared you!!!)

Just Me…

It was like torture at Birmingham NEC. No, truly it was.

We did the airport dash on the wednesday afternoon to get our NEW stock which was stuck at the airport and then for four and a half days opposite the till sat the brand NEW Webster Pages….beautiful designer trims, ribbons, papers – all so nice and my head full of inspiration, but we had no time for play.

So last Tuesday after we had got back and unpacked, I devoted an afternoon to playing with the NEW Webster pages, infact I took great pleasure in tearing open the packaging as quickly as I could!

My only dissapointment been that all the die-cuts from the Life’s Portrait & Garden Gala collection as well as the mini die-cut packs, some designer trims & papers had all sold out, meaning I wasn’t able to get my hands on any! But still, some new product was definatly better than none! (Don’t worry though we have a shipment which is currently been tracked to the local FedEx, which means it should be here tomorrow and this time I will make sure I’m first in the queue to get my fair share of this beautiful stash!!!!)

Any my, I had a lovely afternoon playing with all the lovely papers, designer trims & ribbons. I was 100% in my element!

Take a look at this layout I created (sorry its only sneak peaks for now, but it has been sent off for publication….)

Do you see all the lovely papers? I have a confession though, two elements you can see does not come from Webster Pages, but they went sooo well and were just too utterly gorgeous not to use.

Did you guess?

Yes, the buttons are actually from Melody Ross new Homespun Chic Collection and they are absolutly adorable – I never thought I would go giddy over buttons, but they are so intricate and well formed!

The second, is the beautiful Prima Lettering of ‘Just Me’. They were the perfect color and do you see the little gems they have on them, well they actually came like that! No kidding, hows that for great detail?

Don’t you just LOVE the bloomers? I have a feeling you’ll be spotting these on several more of my layouts in the near future!!!

I just LOVE the papers, the bloomers, the die-cuts……Webster Pages ROCK and I can’t wait for tomorrow’s delivery of even more!!!!

You can find all the products I used in our online shop here. Go on, take a look – you won’t be dissapointed!

P.S - I just remembered if you order from our online shop before midnight tonight, you will get 15% off your order!!! (excludes any products in the Easter Extravaganza category as they have their own special offer worth more than 15%.) All you need to do to qualify is to add the code eggscellent to your shopping basket! There’s really no excuse now is there!?!

Chip Art

Just as we were heading off to exhibit at Birmingham NEC we had a rather lovely shipment in from GCD Studios of the Brand NEW Melody Ross Chip Art Collection!

We took it with us and played in the hotel before showing some of you at the exhibition!

It is a great set of tools that allow you to impress an image/design from the ornamental/alphabet stamps into your chipboard, which you can then ink up as desired for some fantastic results!

Take a look at some of our pictures here:

We will be demo-ing this again, this weekend at Alexander Palace, so make sure you pop by and watch just how easy it is to transform your bare chipboard pieces in creative masterpieces!
